45acp Vs 9mm - Here's the unpopular opinion: The 9mm vs. .45 debate is irrelevant. This hotly debated topic has been talked to death. Of these two calibers, only one makes up the majority of the global ammunition market share, but both cartridges serve a very loyal user base due to the success of each caliber in many areas.
It was thus hotly debated. By the end of today's blog, you will understand what we are talking about.
45acp Vs 9mm
Some people think that these two calibers were developed at different times for different purposes, but that's actually not the case. Both calibers have been developed to be effective
Mm Vs .45 Acp [debate Finally Settled]
The .45 ACP is revered as a classic American caliber as its roots trace back to the Civil War from its predecessor, the .45 Colt long cartridge. Its successor, the .45 ACP that many know and love today, was developed in 1904. way over a hundred years.
The 9mm caliber was developed two years before the .45 caliber by Austrian designer George Luger in 1902. Both calibers saw action in World War I and World War II. Although only a couple of years had passed since its initial development, 9mm chambered machine guns already existed by the start of World War I, being produced for use by the German Army.
You've probably seen online jokes and memes about the .45 M1911 that won America in two world wars. While the meme may have some merit, times are changing. As early as 1955, the North Atlantic Council selected 9mm as the standard caliber for personal handguns produced for NATO forces. At the time, most of Europe was using the 9mm chambered Browning Hi-Power, so it made sense. While some sources say the US quietly adopted the 9mm cartridge, it was certainly a step forward for our soldiers, who were issued with .38 Special revolvers until 1956. In armed conflicts? NATO's adoption of the 9mm also made logistical sense, as in the event of a new major war, supplying ammunition to the Allies would not be so difficult.
From 1955 to the present, the US military has consistently used the 9mm pistol for their sidearms, regardless of the make or model of pistol used. Most of the police forces of the world today also use 9mm pistols for their duty.
Acp Target/training Rounds
Before you jump to conclusions, why not let the science speak for itself. Just because a .45 cartridge is bigger than a 9mm cartridge doesn't mean it's necessarily better.
There's a saying, "I wear .45 because I don't like repeating myself." Have you ever heard of it? Obviously, a .45 caliber bullet has much more kinetic energy, and this is desirable in a premium cartridge. However, take a look at the image above. Above is a 9mm Black Hills round and below is a .45 ACP +P Black Hills round. The wound channel is certainly larger, but it doesn't penetrate as much as a 9mm bullet (about an inch longer short).
Proponents of the .45 caliber will say they prefer the larger cartridge because it has a better chance of hitting a vital organ. With this reasoning alone, of course, it is difficult to argue. But beware: According to the FBI, law enforcement officers miss 70 to 80 percent of their shots in a shootout. It's hard to win a firefight with only seven or eight rounds in the clip, isn't it?
From the FBI's "Justification for Law Enforcement Partners" summary report, they also debunked the "power to kill with the gun" myth in that the single most important factor in injuring a person is the penetration of bullets somewhere between 12" and 18" by standards. The .45 ACP certainly lives up to that standard, but so does 9mm with a variety of bullet weights.
Acp Vs. 9mm: Which Bullet Is “best?”
The research on "stopping power" is questionable because it turns out no one has ever been able to scientifically determine how much kinetic energy it takes to effectively stop a determined and brutal fighter.
According to a senior ballistics specialist at Hornady Manufacturing, there is currently little difference in the final ballistics of premium self-defense bullets between 9mm and .45 bullets tested with ballistic gel. So if the ballistic difference isn't that great, but the 9mm is easier to shoot and handle, why choose the .45?
If you go to Youtube or Facebook Videos, you can easily find videos of police officers shooting people of any caliber against people attacking them. The reality is that both calibers are ineffective at stopping fighters under the influence of drugs or alcohol, which greatly slows the effects of pain unless a shot is fired into the person's central nervous system; i.e. their brain.
Not everyone has the wrist strength of God himself like Jerry Miculek. For him, the caliber probably doesn't matter, but he probably never admitted how painful it is to shoot the caliber. He just said, "Yeah, that's fine." The .45 can greatly increase your confidence when shooting down sheet steel targets, but if you expect to shoot cardboard targets primarily, you may prefer double-stack magazines that will have 9mm cannons.
Defense Debate: 9mm Ammo Vs. .45acp Ammo
If you are not a professional shooter, the 9mm will likely be the best choice for the life of your wrists and possibly even the career of a professional shooter. While there are 2011 cartridges made for .45ACP, most of them are offered in 9mm, if that tells you anything.
Since 9mm cartridges make up the majority of the world's ammunition production, they should be much more affordable (depending on where you live) and therefore a cheaper and more practical alternative for those who want to spend a lot of time at the range. However, due to the severe ammunition shortage that started in 2020 and the price hikes we are still seeing now, it has significantly narrowed the price gap between the two calibers.
9mm seems to range from 0.37 to 0.57 cents per round depending on whether you can buy in person from a store like Bass Pro, Academy, or if you choose to buy in bulk online.
So why do we think this problem isn't really a problem? Well, we just don't live in an age where this argument isn't so fierce anymore. For now, gun owners and professional users who carry .45-caliber handguns are likely to do so more for tradition than performance. That's not to say there can't be finely tuned, extremely fast .45 rifles…because they certainly are.
Acp Vs 9mm 45 Is Just Like 9mm But Its For Grownups! T Shirt
It makes sense that members would compete in the "heavyweight" division, where they live on 1911/2011 racing pistols and fire .45 caliber. If you have a job that requires you to be armed with a handgun, chances are it will be chambered in 9mm. .40S&W pistols are now less likely to be issued to officers, but it does happen. However, coupled with all of the above factors, when you consider that the FBI has been back to 9mm since 2015, the overall answer to this controversy seems pretty clear.
The reason this debate continues is because everyone's shooting needs and abilities are different, and therefore different opinions. But in general, if you want to shoot with a silencer, the .45 ACP is a better and quieter option as it shoots much slower and heavier subsonic bullets than the 9mm. For those looking to own a handgun for self-defense, the 9mm is the clear winner due to its ballistic capabilities, larger magazine capacity, and very controlled recoil. If you like to own multiple guns and are on a budget, simply purchase handguns chambered in both calibers; problem solved. .45ACP ammo has historically been used for self-defense, but does it have any competition in 9mm?

Threat neutralization is a key factor in choosing ammunition for self-defense. The goal is not necessarily to kill the incoming threat, but to ultimately stop the attack. However, the attacker's death may be the result of your self-defense actions. .45ACP ammunition was a reliable defensive cartridge, but organizations like the FBI began favoring the 9mm rounds.
The 9mm cartridge is much easier to handle. A significantly lower recoil makes more manageable and accurate rounds more likely to be used than .45ACP cartridges. Controversy between 9mm and .45ACP bullets
